About Jennifer

I pay close attention to my student's learning styles and needs. Varying teaching lessons is essential to reach each child's individual needs. For this reason, I can take the time to ensure that the lesson plan is flexible enough for each and every one of my students to understand the material.

I have obtained a Post-Bachelor Certification in Human Resource Management after earned my B.S. in Criminal Justice. However, when the economy fell in 2006, I began substitute teaching. I realized that I preferred teaching as a career. So, I entered the Transition-to-Teaching program. I completed the courses and realized that teaching in a public school was not for me. I began teaching English online with SayABC and earned an TESOL teaching certificate. Later, I earned the advanced TEFL certification and decided to teach English and tutor from home.

In 2019, I earned my TESOL 140-credit hour, Teaching Certificate. I also had earned a TEFL 40-credit hour Teaching Certificate. I have taught online ESL for 2 years, substitute taught, for about 3 years, and tutored for about 1 year now.

In addition, I completed all the courses in Elementary Education but was unable to do the student teaching (life circumstances). However, in my field studies, during my elementary education experience. I was able to work in the classrooms with students one-on-one, in groups, with children with autism and other disabilities in small group settings. I have worked frequently in special education classrooms while substitute teaching as well. This has allowed me to better recognize the varying learning needs of individual students and enables me to create better lesson plans and alternatives based on particular student's needs.

About the lesson

I offer a free 15-minute meeting to get to know my students and the goals they wish to meet. During this meeting, we decide how we would like our lessons to run and what days and times work for us. Then, we schedule our first class!

I have worked with students in ages ranging from 5-14 as a certified ESL teacher. I substitute taught in elementary and middle schools for 4 years, and participated in a variety of field study experiences in elementary schools (public, and private), and preschool-aged children (public and private), as well. As an ESL Teacher for SayABC, I taught Chinese students, ages 5-11, English as a second language (ESL).

My specialty is Englsish, ESL/ELA; however, my classrooms are for all K-12 learners and college students in general subjects. I am also educated in criminal justice, sociology as well as general college studies.

I would suggest that they, not only look at their education and experience, but pay attention to the way the teacher manages the class and interacts with the student. I offer a free-15 minute introductory meeting for parents and students to get to know each other and discuss the material they need to work on in class and the student's learning style. This also allows you to see if the student is a good fit with the teacher's teaching style. Find out what the daily class schedule consists of. Be sure that the student's learning style is a good fit with the tutor's teaching style.

I am excited to see that I can create my own courses online so that I can individualize my lessons for various learning styles. It also gives me the opportunity to offer all foreign language learners to learn English.

Another event I am fond of is when I had my student listen for words with the same vowel sound. They had been struggling a bit with this. And I stopped the animation and sounded it out with the student. I was so happy to see that he chose the correct word, instantly every time, but the proud look on their face made my day!
