About Sheri

As an experienced and credentialed teacher of elementary ed for many years, I understand the greatly diverse backgrounds and needs of students. I have tutored students of all ages, but most particularly those in the 4th and 5th grades. I specialize in language arts tutoring, being very proficient in the English Language. Secondarily, I tutor math, both elementary and middle school levels.

About the lesson

First, my aim is to get to know my new student thoroughly! Why is he or she seeking a tutor? What challenges is he/she facing in the particular subject? What does my student enjoy doing outside of school work? If I know his/her general interests, this knowledge enables me to make learning more interesting, relevant and FUN!) Next, I create a plan that is manageable for my student so that he/she does not become overwhelmed or frustrated by the material. That is to say, a workable schedule for the tutoring sessions, in suitable time frames. Finally, I obtain any and all materials and knowledge of the subject being taught, in order to best support my student as he/she progresses.

Zach

Sheri was one of the best tutors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She tutored me in just about every subject, from math, science, writing, and even foreign language (French). I was so used to relaxed, trivial material that at first I thought I was overwhelmed by what she gave me. In hindsight, Sheri knew my limits better than I did, and she encouraged me to become a stronger student. After I acquiesced to the curriculum she presented, I found myself able not only able to work more efficiently, but I began to understand how my own mind worked. I have a feeling this was part of her plan! Knowing my most efficient learning habits is a skill I still cherish to this day. It was a very special opportunity to work with her for so long, and an opportunity I would take again.

Sheri was fun and easy to work with. She helped me with my math by playing games, and giving me lots of help and encouragement. I really looked forward to my tutoring times with her!
