About Lauren

As a healthcare IT professional with 5+ years experience in writing, editing, and coding, I can help you learn and improve your skills in these areas. I enjoy working with students of all ages and grade levels, from elementary to college.

Education & Professional Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Technical Communication (Colorado State University, 2015)

- Master's degree in Health Services Administration (Regis University, 2019)

- 5+ years experience in digital and print writing and editing in various industries. I've been published in 14 magazine issues for the Meredith Corporation with editor and feature writer credentials.

- 2+ years experience and certifications in coding, with expertise in the following: HTML/CSS, web design, SQL, Python, advanced Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis.

My Tutoring Style:

- I grew up shy, and confidence was an area I struggled with especially in middle and high school. Throughout my education and work experience, I've valued having teachers and professional mentors for guidance along the way. That said, I think that makes me more empathetic towards students throughout their learning journey and inspires me to be a continuous mentor. I treat tutoring as a mentor/mentee dynamic as I believe that provides a more solid foundation for confidence and long term success.

- If I could describe my teaching style in 3 words: patient, collaborative, goal oriented.

Additional Info About Me:

- I'm a Colorado native and lived here my whole life. When I'm not engaged in work, you can find me outdoors, involved in my church community, or volunteering at a local hospital.

I am a teacher by nature, regardless of profession. I feel most motivated and fulfilled when I can troubleshoot and find a solution to a complex situation, then break that down for other teams / individuals and serve as a resource to them for help moving forward. This is what I love about my work in healthcare IT, but also in my past work across other industries (journalism and marketing) and as a former student myself.

About the lesson

I like to set up a 30min 1:1 consultation, either in person or virtually, to better understand your expectations and objectives for tutoring, as well as your learning style. From there, we will set a meeting cadence and build out a learning plan together to help you meet your goals.

Not only do I strive to help my students improve their academic skillset - I also aim to empower them to feel confident in themselves and learning moving forward.
