About Amanda

I am very funny and caring and relatable to all people and cultural backgrounds since I come from a multi cultural home. I am very skilled at guiding students to figure out how to solve their problems instead of me showing them. I facilitate their learning by giving them challenges that they will be successful in. This makes learning engaging and teaches the student to trust their own knowledge. My process is all about building confidence.

It’s rewarding. It’s watching someone overcome their doubts and becoming strong and confident. I love to care for others as well and I’m lucky that they way I am able to do that is with education.

I was a tutor at my university and I have taught in private schools during my Masters degree program. Now I teach at the college level as an adjunct professor. I didn’t set out to be a teacher but it’s something that fell into place naturally because I have a nack for it. Probably because my father was also an educator and mentor I have that in me.

I am a adjunct professor in English as a Second language and Linguistics. I have taught reading, composition and speech communication.

I usually come in and see what there concerns are and take a look at their assignments. And I give them a few practice examples and tasks to do before they get into doing their actual assignments. I also prepare activities for review to bring for our next meeting.

I have worked with all ages. Children to adults and even elderly.

I would say that hiring a linguist as a teacher for anything to do with language including reading writing and speech is the most appropriate choice. Linguists understand language beyond the grammar rules you are taught to follow. We understand how the brain works when learning language and we know the meaning to why we have to use certain rules in grammar or language. It’s better to know why you are doing something so that you can actively choose to do it or not. This is the problem with students in the classroom often times students are given assignments and rules and tasks to follow yet the reason for doing them aren’t explained deeply so students don’t see the point.

This month I am excited about the renaissance Faire. Every year I go and dress up as the queen of Scott’s.

I love cultural activities like festivals and museums that’s what I usual do for fun.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think about what is really holding them back.

Are they having negative thoughts that are making them lose confidence in themselves when learning? Example “ I’m not good at writing”. If I don’t pass this test I’m going to fail”

What are the specific things that they don’t understand? Is it the steps? Rules? Reasons why you have to learn this?

How have they been studying? Using flash cards? Reading the chapter 3 times over?some study habits are good and others are bad.

I think these things here will help the teacher quickly start to combat your problem areas instead of having a few sessions just to figure out what the problems are.
