About Nikki
I am a high school English teacher who loves to help students with writing, reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, creative projects, note taking, and study skill.
I love to see the moment that a student "gets it". That "ah-ha" moment where it finally clicks and they realize what they've been missing. It's magical.
It's what I've always wanted to do: share my love for English literature, writing, and self-expression through words. I've always wanted to help people, and writing is a beautiful medium for doing so.
I have two bachelor degrees from UMass Amherst in English and BDIC (self-constructed major focusing on communication disorders, Deaf studies, special education, and psychology).
A minor in Psychology from UMass Amherst.
A specialization in Creative Writing from UMass Amherst.
A masters of art in teaching from Brown University (Secondary English Education).
30+ credits of post-graduate work in teaching English,
An SEI endorsement and Massachusetts teaching license.

Getting to know a student comes first, as I can't teach someone without understanding them first. I am also a transparent educator and will share parts of my life with them, too, in order to help us understand each other.
All types of students, all types of learners, all ages.
Be honest. Try to explain what you need help with, and don't be afraid or shy! You're not uneducated or unknowledgable. It takes courage to acknowledge what you need more experience with.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What you need help with and why.

Mrs. Carrero is a wonderful, passionate, and dedicated teacher who cares about each and every student she has. With innovative lessons that keep students involved, Carrero never fails to get through to her students. Personally, I have learned more about English from Mrs. Carrero than I have in all my years of education, and that is because she gives her all to every lesson, which in turn encourages students to do the same.
