About Avalon

I believe in cultivating a genuine love for the work in each and every student. My primary focus is helping my students engage personally with the material, which helps retention and builds a better foundation for expanding knowledge and critical thinking.

I love connecting with people over literature and language, and encouraging their independent thought processes and critical interpretations.

When I'm not tutoring professionally, I tutor on a volunteer basis through Schoolhouse.

Growing up, my mother taught physics and I would follow her around, I thought I didn't enjoy teaching and didn't want to be a teacher. Working with children at a summer camp when I was 19 changed my mind, as did the friendly tutoring work I did for my classmates.

Over the summer, I work as an educational programmer for kids ages 9 and up. Currently, I work as a tutor both on a paid and volunteer basis at my school and through Schoolhouse World.

Throughout my academic career I have studied English, literature, calligraphy, British literature, Russian literature, philosophy, theology, psychology, poetry, political science, puppetry, and Shakespeare.

Currently, I am pursuing independent studies in still-life iconography, computer programming and robotics, and cybersecurity.
