Deadly! My grandson has been working with Marie for over six months. During that time, we have noticed a marked improvement in his reading skills and comprehension. This is a kid who used to “hate” reading but has recently begun picking up books on his own and reading “for fun". This would have never happened prior to her tutelage. My grandson can get overwhelmed by new concepts and ideas. Deadly! Marie is one of the most thoughtful, patient, and caring people I have ever met. She first started tutoring me in high school Spanish, a subject that I despised - yet somehow, she always found ways to make it as interesting and engaging as it could have been for me. Thinking back on that time, I have to say: her patience and creativity knows no bounds. Later in high school, she became my go-to person for help with everything from starting a school mental health club to my history essays, from my English assignments to my deepest existential questions. I could always count on her for a supportive, insightful discussion; she makes sure she tends to the emotional as well as the academic components of her students’ struggles in any given subject. Marie also helped me tremendously with my search for the right college, and guided me through the process of filling out applications and writing application essays, which ultimately led to me being admitted into the college of my choice! In the years since then, I have always been able to go to Marie for help with writing papers and navigating through college coursework. It’s hard to say exactly when it happened, but somewhere along the line Marie became more than simply a tutor: she’s been my mentor figure, bettering me academically but also bettering me as a person.
