About Kylie
I'm 23 years old, I work during the week, and I'm a full-time student working toward my bachelor's degree in Sociology. In high school I scored in the top 5% on English and Writing for the state of Texas, and had a near perfect score on the writing and reading section of the SATs, as well as a perfect score on the ACT for writing. I've made the Dean's list for two consecutive semeseters. In my free-time I write fiction, slam poetry, short stories, and I play electric guitar. I've been tutoring kids since I was fifteen, and tutoring college students since 2014. My goal is help my students gain a better understanding of literature, develop written communication skills, and utilize proper grammar. In addition to that, I am passionate about instilling a love for the written word, and making sure that kids feel confident, capable, and prepared so they can bring home good grades, and excel in English and Reading.
I love it when I see my students gain confidence, and the ability to express themselves through writing in ways they never have before. Helping people develop a love for writing, and seeing my students light up when they finally get it is priceless.
I started teaching when I was 15. I volunteered at a tutoring program run by my church, for kids from grades 1-6 in all subjects. Now I meet with college and high school students for for English, reading, and essay writing, which is my passion.
I completed high school in 2013, with a 3.8 GPA, and perfect scores in English.
I am in my third year of college, where I was originally studying for an English degree. I have since changed my major to Sociology, and plan on getting my Masters in Behavioral Science or Social Work.
I have many years of experience writing creatively and academically-from essay and poetry competititions, to exegeticals and research papers- I've done it all.
I have been tutoring kids for about seven years now, and it is something I enjoy and take very seriously.

What a student needs varies greatly, but here are some principles I focus on in general:
1. Honing in on what the student is really struggling with.
2. Work on basic grammar, and sentence structure.
3. Helping the student communicate effectively through word choice, and turning ideas into actual papers. I want you to have a voice!
4.Communicate better methods for studying, reading, and interpreting literature.
5. Help students with editing, revising, and formatting.
5. Build confidence. The key to accomplishing anything is to believe that it is possible. Anyone can write well, and my goal is to make sure you learn how.
All ages. I've worked with kids from preschool up through college.
Not everyone loves reading or writing, but everyone is capable of writing well when given the proper tools. I can help you see English in an entirely new light and help your student make the grades they deserve if they are willing to put in the work.
Last week my cousin and his bandmates drove in from Mssouri, and it was their first time in downtown Houston. I gave them the grand tour. We stopped at Boomtown Coffee to sip some honey lattes and catch up on life, my favorite pasttime. Afterward we roamed the streets, which are vaguely reminiscent of New York. For the first time in a long time, I felt alive again. That's what the city does, it reminds you that so much is going on around you, and it's just waiting for you to be a part of it.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are some specific struggles the student has in this subject? (ex: grammar, sentence structure, spelling, literature analysis)
What kinds of grades are the students making in this subject?
What is the student looking to gain from tutoring?
