About Sofia
Hello! I am a NYS certified high school English teacher working in Queens, NY. I will be starting my masters degree in Literature at Georgetown University in the fall of 2020. Although my certification is in Secondary Education, I have had plenty of experience working with children from ages three and up on a daily basis, when I worked at tutoring centers. I have taught courses dedicated to understanding Shakespeare, poetry, and public speaking.
My hobbies include writing my own work, reading, studying literary theory, going to museums, attending classical music concerts and staying active!

My typical process with a new student entails meeting with the parent(s) or guardian(s) first to gather a better understanding of the student’s academic history, personality, strengths, and weaknesses.
My pedagogical philosophy focuses on boosting a student’s self-confidence as they meet specific goals they set. I have countlessly found that a student’s academic progress has a direct relationship with how they view themselves as learners.
