About Portia
My name is Portia Jacobs. I live in Santa Monica, CA, and am originally from Victoria, BC, Canada.
I hold a degree in Communications, as well as a Professional Designation in Public Relations from UCLA.
I lived in Tokyo, Japan for five years where I taught English-as-a-Second-Language for Berlitz. I went through a rigorous world-class training program with Berlitz, and received my certification. While at Berlitz I taught mostly one-on-one. Most of my students were business people, entertainment professionals, university students, and high school students.
I am very friendly and enjoy sharing the beautiful English language with the people of the world!
I was hired by The Berlitz School of Languages in Tokyo, Japan, and went through their training program. I taught 13-hours per day, six days per week for 5 years.

I teach conversational English, and can also help you learn American cultural customs. I will asses your English proficiency to determine what level you are at. Once I know what you need to learn we will get started. I teach in a very interactive format where I ask questions and you answer. I will help you with basic grammar and spelling, however, my main purpose is to teach conversational English.
I have worked mostly with business people, entertainment professionals, university students, and high school students.
