About Christian
I am in my fifteenth year as a professor US history at Austin Community College. In 2012 I was a nominee for the college's Excellence in Teaching Award. I have ninenteen years of tutoring experience. I regularly tutor students during office hours. I was previously a tutor, review session leader, and grader for Santa Barbara Community College and a grader for the University of California-Santa Barbara.
My courses include a writing requirement, so much of my tutoring is in essay organization and proper English grammar and usage. Writing is usually a student's greatest challenge, so I devote in-class sessions to it, and it is covered in several pages of my syllabus.
I am also a professional tour guide. I lead tours each semester for Austin Community College, and also work as a guide for regional destination management companies. I worked seven years for the state as a guide at the Texas Capitol and Governor's Mansion. I am a three-time winner of the Zuber Award for most Knowledgeable Capitol Tour Guide as voted by my peers.
I graduated from a broadcasting school and have a professional background in radio (I was a disc jockey at an FM rock station in Coachella, California). I am trained in elocution and skiled at speaking clearly and audibly, which aids students for whom English is a second language.
I enjoy trying to discuss historical events in such a way that students can find it relevant and easy to remember.
I certainly enjoy discussing history. It's been one of my greatest interests since I was eight years old.
