About Vanessa

Hello! I am an active flute instructor and freelance musician in the DFW metroplex. I received my Bachelors in Music Education and Flute Performance at the University of North Texas. I am certified through the Texas State Board of Education for Music grades EC-12. I recently completed student teaching with the band programs at Coppell High School and Coppell Middle School North in Coppell, TX. I have also been a woodwind/marching instructor with the Marcus High School Band in Flower Mound, TX, assisting the band in achieving silver medalist at the 2023 6A UIL State Marching Contest, with the woodwinds receiving 2nd place in their caption in finals. I currently teach in Terrell ISD as a flute masterclass/private lessons instructor.

I have performed with ensembles such as the Dallas Asian Winds, the North Texas Wind Orchestra, the North Texas Opera Orchestra, the Conducting Institute Lab Orchestra, and the North Texas Studio Orchestra. I have extensive solo, chamber, and audition experience, including knowledge of the TMEA/OKMEA All-Region/All-State process. My teachers include Terri Sundberg, Amy Taylor, and Karen Torbert.

My pedagogical philosophy represents the core values of music that I believe are crucial to be passed on to others for many generations, I focus on preserving a student’s individuality while shedding light on new perspectives and ideas for the student to digest. My students become self-sufficient, independent artists in life, both with and without their instruments. Whatever paths students take after our lessons together, I hope they walk away appreciating music more than before.

Flute lessons offered by Vanessa are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Coppell. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
