About Joshua

I've been teaching piano and tutoring various subjects for over ten years. I've helped students with everything from algebra to history and theology.

I started teaching as a piano teacher when I was still in high school. I love it and kept up with it. I taught middle school French and History for a couple years but felt I wanted to work with people more closely in the way that tutoring allows. I've tutored and taught during all three of my college degrees. It is truly a passion.

Education:

B.A. in French and History from Merrimack College.

M.Div. from Boston University.

M.A. in Spiritual Direction candidate at Merrimack College.

1600 hours of Clinical Partial Education.

13 years teaching piano privately.

8 years tutoring various subjects privately.

About the lesson

I like to start where the student is. I'll ask that they bring something that they are working on and to tell me about it. From there I enter into a conversation with the student about the material they're struggling with. I do not give out answers but I work with the student to help find the answers together.

I have tutored students as young as fourth grade to University level students. The subject friends on how advanced a student I can take. My primary subjects are theology, history, and French. I can also do up to intermediate Spanish, algebra, philosophy, as well as other subjects. Message me and we can have a deeper conversation!

Don't just look at the credentials, though those are important. It is the relationship that is the most important. If your teacher makes you feel small, dumb, insignificante, you are probably not going to learn. It is through true co-discovery and mutual excitement that you will actually grasp ideas. So while your teacher does need to know the material, your teacher needs to be willing know you, too

I recently officiated a wedding of a good friend of mine. It reminded me so much of not only my own wedding but of how interconnected everything is. The subjects we learn aren't simply theoretical, they are applied. What I teach in theology, philosophy, ethics, history, music, all comes together in an event like a wedding: amazingly beautiful, intricately complex, and deeply significant.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I have found that often times these questions are the best for teachers to work through with students. Though, I do often wonder if there are steps to figuring something out. If nothing comes to mind, bring that question to your teacher! Our job is to work through your questions with you so that the next time you have a question like it you can remember a prices to solving it, not just an answer.
