About Nicola

My name is Nicola and I’m a native speaking English teacher. I'm a born and bred Londoner with a London accent, specialising in teaching the British accent & pronunciation.

I am immensely committed to seeing my students make clear progress in their quest to reduce their accents or acquire the British Received Pronunciation accent.

I hold an accredited Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification, which means I have been trained specifically to teach speakers of other languages. I specialise in helping students who are nervous or lacking in confidence. My students feed back that I am kind and understanding. I teach a lot of students across the globe and I can help you to master your accent and pronunciation as a pathway to achieving your goals.

Many of my students regularly tell me that they are now MISTAKEN AS BRITISH in their native countries. It can be achieved with hard work!

All students who attend my lessons are initially ASSESSED and following this receive personalised teaching; where classes are planned in advance and in keeping with your accent needs. We learn the crucial sounds and rhythm of English through drilling, reading and conversation.

Students are given access to downloadable audio files to assist in passive and active listening to support learning.

My classes are fun, interactive and designed to assist the student in the development of muscle memory. I am immensly proud of the achievements of my students and the increase in confidence in their ability to speak without feeling self-conscious. My students develop the confidence and skills to be able to engage in meaningful conversations.

I hold an accredited Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification, which means I have been trained specifically to teach speakers of other languages. I also hold a certificate in phonology. I have been accent coaching as an independent for the last three years.

About the lesson

Learning to speak English with correct pronunciation is a crucial element of English communication. We are not trying to erase who we are or where we are from, rather we are making sure that we are well understood by other English speakers.

All students who attend my lessons are initially ASSESSED and following this receive personalised teaching; where classes are planned in advance and in keeping with your accent needs. We learn the crucial sounds and rhythm of English through drilling, reading and conversation.

I have tutored over 2,500 lessons to students from accross the globe. These include students from Brazil; Mexico; China; Hong Kong; South Korea; Thailand; Japan; Singapore; Russia; Hungary; Poland; Portgual; Spain; Italy; France; Germany; Quatar and Saudi Arabia. I currently work with doctors; surgeons; actors; singers; trainee solicitors; software developers; teachers and translators.

I specialise in helping students who are nervous or lacking in confidence. My students feed back that I am kind and understanding and that my classes are fun and engaging.

It is quite difficult for non-native speakers of English to be able to distinguish between native-speaking and non-native-speaking teachers. I have come across teachers purporting to be native speakers, when in fact they are not. As a Londoner, I can hear their own errors!

I would advise that students are selective to ensure that their accent coach IS a native speaker of English in order to ensure that the teacher is well versed in the accent.

I have had several students feed back on how their lives have improved after having classes with me. These include a student from Thailand who is often asked if he is from England. My student from Hong Kong who was able to avoid intimidation in the work place due to his now Anglicised accent. My student from Russia who has been hailed with having the best accent at the English schools he attends. My student from Singapore who was told by a taxi driver that her accent is very Anglicised. I have many of these stories.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider whether they want to simply reduce their accent or whether their goal is to acquire a British Accent. They should also consider how much time they have available to practise and how they will fit their practise around their daily lives.
