About Sulynn

You will focus on your goals and interests right off the bat. No two lessons are the same. We will cover styles and music that you love in a hands-on fashion. Clarity and understanding are crucial, and I provide thorough lesson materials for you to refer to during the lesson.

I love to empower people from all walks of life through this tool that is the guitar. I love to transform any doubt and nervousness about playing into confidence and comfort. I love to encourage a healthy culture around playing the instrument, prioritizing physical sustainability through technique and form, and persistence and positivity through a healthy dose of repetition and application. I love to help people reach their full potential with creativity and performance.

I began teaching in 2009 at Bigel Music. I left in 2013 to open and teach from my home studio and have been doing that since.

Sulynn Hago is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, composer, and improviser whose playing spans from the heavy, fast energy of metal and punk bands to the dynamic subtleties of jazz, classical, ambient and experimental guitar. Hago's performance experience encompasses both intimate and mass settings from DIY tours around the country to international shows and festivals. An eclectic and adaptable guitarist, Hago seeks the challenge of playing, improvising and/or writing guitar in as many styles and musical atmospheres as possible, preferably on a classical guitar or an electric guitar rigged through a chain of effect pedals.

Along with writing and touring in punk bands from an early point of her guitar playing, Hago pursued a consistent study of the guitar through learning by ear off of recordings, reading guitar books, and taking private lessons. She ultimately garnered an interest in classical and jazz guitar studies, working privately with various local guitar teachers — mainly Thomas Coffey, LaRue Nickelson, and Peter Mongaya — to develop her technique, music theory studies, and personalized voice on the instrument and integrate it into her bands. In addition to her non-stop performing experience and guitar studies, Hago also attributes her aesthetic to the creative writing degree in poetry and creative non-fiction that she earned at the University of South Florida.

In 2015 Hago was picked among 400 applicants as touring guitarist for Canadian punk/metal band Propagandhi. For this accomplishment, in 2016 Hago received the "Best Embedded Local" award from Creative Loafing. In 2018, Career was awarded “Best Album Release Show” for their single 30-minute song release of Structures which Razorcake magazine responded with positive reviews: “This band from Tampa is clearly brimming with folks who know about music, not just its history but its structure. It’s interesting to listen to; it’s surprising. It’s dissonant and surprising and when the vocals do appear, they are exactly what you’ve come to expect from Florida—gruff, urgent, and strained. You f**king listen to this record; it doesn’t play in the background.”

When not writing, practicing or performing, Hago teaches individual lessons in various styles of Acoustic, Electric, and Classical guitar as well as advanced technique and theory from her home. A guitar instructor since 2009, Hago's goal is to share her knowledge of the instrument and performance preparation to anyone who wishes to play and write music on the guitar. About the lesson

Students' lessons are shaped based on their musical goals and interests. We meet weekly or biweekly, and I provide sufficient but not overwhelming amount of material to help students progress each week and get closer to meeting their goals. Technique, ear-training, improvisation, chord studies are among some of the topics covered regardless of level. Learning songs that the students want to learn is also another area we will focus on.

I teach all ages and from very beginner to advanced levels, most in the style of rock to shred guitar.
