About Andrew
I have played guitar for over ten years and have been formally trained in jazz and classical styles. The guitar is truly a unique instrument, and I love teaching people who have never played before how to express themselves using it. I like to focus on the very basic fundamentals of guitar playing, and I also have a lot of experience with music theory and songwriting. If you're trying to learn how to play guitar to express yourself, I am all about helping you reach the point where playing the guitar is as natural as walking and talking.
I have had two years of jazz guitar training and one year of classical guitar training through private tutors. I am also a certified Water Safety Instructor through the American Red Cross, and teach swim lessons through the UIC Recreational Center. Both swimming and playing guitar involve learning techniques that, with plenty of practice, become internalized to the point that they become second nature.

The most important thing is knowing where a student is in their musical progress. For beginner students, it's important to build the finger and arm strength necessary to press down frets. During my classical guitar training, I have learned methods for obtaining this strength. If a student is more advanced, then I would encourage their progress by teaching music theory and chord progressions, along with chord inversions. At the highest skill level, I would teach my students how to create a guitar solo.
