About Stephen

I am a versatile music educator. I have over 15 years of classroom teaching experience in grades K-12. I direct youth and adult choirs. I also give lessons in voice, piano, guitar, violin, and ukulele. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels.

I started teaching after receiving my B. A. in music with a vocal performace seal in 2004. I have enjoyed teaching elementary, middle, and high school since then and I also received my Master's degree in choral conducting in 2017.

I have several years of teaching experience in the classroom and with private lessons in various instruments. I play and perform regularly in church and I have performed in other venues as well.

About the lesson

I like to get to know my students in our first lesson. I like to find out what their past experiences with music have been, and what their goals are for the future. I always like to give them something to work on in the first lesson, and then concentrate on accomplishing something every time we get together.

I have worked with students of all ages in voice, guitar, piano, ukulele, and violin.

Focus on taking record of what you learn in each lesson. Music takes hard work and discipline, but you should be able to track progress in mostly small, but sometimes large increments.

I am currently doing a cool project with my music students who are quarantined due to the coronavirus. They are sending me recordings of the vocal parts they were working on prior to the outbreak, and I am compiling them into a virtual choir recording.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should always work for a clear goal of what they want to accomplish and then set about breaking that goal up into small achievable steps until they get there.
