First I teach my student about the parts of a guitar. Then I teach the names of each string. Then I teach rhythm as a concept. Then I begin teaching about what notes are and flats and sharps. Then I move on to teaching my student how to read music. Then once my student reads music successfully I play beginner duets with them before moving on to beginner solo pieces.
