I like to find out what their musical interest & goals are. Also, it's important for them to express what learning process works best for them i.e. reading sheet music? tab? learning by ear? memory? Making sure they have an instrument that suits them is also important....that the action, neck, tuners , bridge, types of strings are a good set up for them. We discuss the difference between practicing & playing your instrument and how both are important. Other practice tips I offer them. It's very important that I ask them what they're looking for from my self, or teachers in general.
