About Brent

40+ years ago I fell in love with playing acoustic guitar and singing: to communicate emotions: to share messages intended to uplift, strengthen, and encourage: to combat grief and discouragement: and to improve personal health, and contentment.

The first lesson is complimentary and intended to determine student goals in order to design a curriculum most likely to ensure their success. Periodically I check with students to ensure the accomplishment of their goals. Moving forward I evaluate the students progress to ensure that they reach their goals as efficiently as possible.

For 35+ years I've performed extensively as a solo act and in numerous ensemble and group settings. Students also benefit from my extensive music theory knowledge to help them learn: chord progressions, composing and arranging skills: chord substitutions: scales: and much more.

My education includes: a Bachelor's degree concentrating in jazz vocal performance: and a Master's of Music degree concentrating on music of the American South.

Students benefit from my extensive music theory knowledge to help them progress from: building good discipline and a solid foundation of practice: learning the easiest chords, scales, and progression construction: rhythm strumming and finger-picking styles: developing an increasing library of chord types: then moving on chord substitutions, composing and arranging skills: and much more until the student desires lessons behind my ability or a change of teacher.

I am a driven to learn music and love to share knowledge with others to help them improve their skills in areas that they are most interested if those include: learning to play guitar: writing and arranging songs: or singing (most people can).

About the lesson

Many times it is convenient to conduct most lessons by computer video conferencing with occasional visits to the students home. Together we begin by assessing the level of the student's current knowledge and determining the type of lessons they desire. Then we decide whether there is a match between the students desires and my musical abilities. If there is a match we can proceed, if not I will let you know that your interest would be better served by a different teacher. In the event we decide to proceed we will develop an appropriate lesson plan to accomplish the students goals. When the students goals change or exceed mine I will recommend that the student find a more experienced teacher.
