About Benjamin
HELLO,
MY NAME IS BENJAMIN. I WAS BORN IN INDIANA, BUT NOW RESIDE IN LOS ANGELES CA. I WAS INTRODUCED TO MUSIC AT A YOUNG AGE, AND SINCE THEN, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A DRIVING PASSION IN MY LIFE. I AM PRIMARILY A GUITARIST/BASSIST BUT I ALSO EXCEL IN SINGING, SONGWRITING, AND MUSIC PRODUCTION.
I LOVE WORKING WITH NEW STUDENTS AND INTRODUCING THEM TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITAR/BASS. I HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY PERFORMING AND RECORDING FOR OVER MANY YEARS AND HAVE A RANGE OF EXPERIENCE IN MANY GENRES AND STYLES (BLUES, JAZZ, ROCK, FOLK, POP, ETC). AFTER ATTENDING COLLEGE FOR MUSIC TECHNOLOGY, I GREW A STRONG UNDERSTANDING AND LOVE OF ALL MUSIC. MY STYLE REVOLVES AROUND THEORY AND UNDERSTANDING THE NECK OF THE GUITAR, SO MY STUDENTS CAN BUILD THEIR EAR CAPABILITY AND HAVE FUN LEARNING NEW SONGS FOR THEMSELVES.

Watching my students have fun as they make progress. Music has been a huge part of my life, and seeing it introduced into others is great.
I've been working in the music business for several years now and often times would meet young aspiring artists who would ask for direction.
At a certain point, I decided it was a fun exciting way to introduce music into peoples lives, knowing how much music has done for myself.
It started with one student and then expanded and took off.
I went to college for Music Technology where I took several courses in music theory, composition/arrangement, music production, music history, etc.
I also have been professionally performing and working as a session guitarist in Los Angeles for several years now, making me well versed with the instrument.

First, I typically try to get get my students comfortable with the instrument (assuming they have no prior experience). I'm not extremely strict about posture or technique, but I definitely have tons of tips and suggestions to get students comfortable initially to holding the guitar.
A lot of my teaching process is applying theory and musical understanding to songs that interest my student. Whenever I get a new student I love to talk to them and understand what their musical goals are and music they enjoy listening to, that way I can personalize my lessons to suit their musical preferences and make it enjoyable and educational at the same time.
A range of ages and skill levels.
Stay with it at the very beginning. The beginning is always the hardest to endure, but I will try to make it fun and get us through it. Once you can get the basics under your belt, that's when it becomes really fun.
One of my student who I had been working with for a long time has grown exponentially since we started. As of recent, when we get together he will show me several songs he has learned himself without my help. He understands how to navigate the guitar and find out things for himself. This shows me that he is enjoying playing when I am not around, and truly having fun with the instrument. A joy to watch.
