About Micah

I taught myself mainly by listening to Hendrix and Black Sabbath in the very beginning. My real training began when I was accepted to a performing arts high school (LACHSA) where I began studying jazz and music theory. I continued on this path completing a BFA program at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC where my major was Guitar Performance. I also studied privately with quite a few heavy players, (Sid Jacobs, Mike Moreno, Kurt Rosenwinkle and Peter Mazza to list a few,) and educators parallel to my schooling. Over the years I've taught and done sideman work and studio work with artists such as Sharon Robinson, the Living Sisters, Charlie Wadhams, Joachim Cooder and others. I also compose for commercials and have an original project of my own.

About the lesson

I'll first give a brief introduction where I describe my background and training and share a couple of my personal interests and ideas about music. That will easily transition into a conversation where I ask questions and get a sense of the student's goals and interests while assessing any skills he or she may have already, thereby arriving at a comprehensive study plan that targets those goals.

I'm

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Where do you see yourself ideally, as a guitarist/musician in six months? One year? Five years?

How much time are you really able to dedicate to improving each day? This is the most important factor.

Are you interested in theory?

Are you interested in improvising?

Playing with a pick or right hand fingerstyle?

What do you most wish you could play on guitar?
