About Tim
I love the guitar. It's not unusual to see me playing guitar while I'm driving around town! I can play by ear so I enjoy giving myself new challenges. Growing up I taught myself how to play guitar. Later I was lucky enough to have some of the best in Memphis - home of the blues! - mentor me. I enjoy teaching what I love. Teaching myself in my earlier years has given me the ability to deliver concepts to students that have trouble the more "conventional" way. My passion for guitar comes out in my teaching. I want to give students the ability to have the feeling I get when I pick up a guitar

About the lesson

The first lesson I like to get to know the student a little first. I want to know why they picked the guitar, what kind of music do they like, what about the guitar excites them, etc. If they've had previous lessons I like to know where there at overall, what areas do they excel in, what areas are they struggling in.
Then I have them give me a "song goal". What song out there is the one they see themselves playing when they close their eyes. What song made them pick the guitar.
Every week for a small portion of the lesson - we work on their "song goal". Everyone works better with a goal in mind. You might not think the small parts you learn every week mean much, but before you know it you've learned that song. That's one of the best feelings in guitar is being able to play that song that drew you to it in the beginning.
