About Portland School of Music & Dance

By having multiple teachers with teaching various instruments at one time, families are able to complete ALL their lessons within a short period of time. We have families who have 3 students taking lessons in the SAME half hour - with different instruments! It's quick and easy for busy families!

We are convenient, with 2 locations:

We change lives. Some might think that we just teach music or dance lessons. But we've had some of our students for going on TEN years. We build relationships and connections and our students fully trust us -- because of that, we have the power to change their lives and empower them to move forward to the next step. Those kids have grown up with us and many are continuing onto further musical education!

All of our teachers have a MINIMUM of a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Music Education, or degree in their particular instrument (ie. Vocal Performance Major, etc.). Our teachers all 3+ years of prior teaching experience as well.

About the lesson

Enjoyment opens the door to learning. It is important to us that we discover what our students are interested in learning and what they are excited about! We guide the learning process using the student's interests, high quality curriculum, and exciting pieces!

We have worked with all ages, as young as 3 and as old as your grandmother. =)

We have had high energy students, with whom we have to get creative on how we interact with them to keep their interest. We've had shy, quiet kids who have come to life through music and the expression that it allows them. We have had children on the autism spectrum as well - very gifted and each week is a unique experience with them.

Enjoyment opens the door to learning. The teacher/student connection and relationship is KEY. As the student grows to trust the teacher, that connection will then fuel further progress as the student learns and grows more in the world of music.

It's important that you let the connetion between the student and teacher be your guide for the right teacher (as well as appropriate qualifications). Musicians who can play and perform well don't necessarily know how to teach. Musicians who have a degree don't necessarily know how to teach.

We require a University degree in music, pervious teaching experience, and observation time to ensure our instructors meet our standard.

$33 per 30-minute lesson, $49.50 per 45-minute lesson, $66 per 60-minute lesson.

Our 12-month, year-long program is based on the day of the week the lesson falls (ie. Wednesday) and how many lessons there are in the year (1x per week). So, if a student began lessons in September and there were 48 Wednesdays (not on holidays), we would take the number of lessons (48) x the cost per lesson ($33), then divide it by 12 to make equal payments through the year. The monthly cost would then be $132 per month.
