About Paul
Having graduated and gotten my Master of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge in the early 70’s, I worked as a professor in Economics, Marketing, Social and Political Sciences in undergraduate and graduate courses at universities in Brazil.
In 1994 I became director of Postgraduate and Executive Programs at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi in São Paulo, Brazil, from where I retired in 2009 when I returned to the United State.
Since then, I have written several articles in Portuguese and English on education, economics, international relations, and constitutional law, all of which were published by the Brazilian Association of Private Higher Education (Associação Brasileira das Mantenedoras de Educação Superior - ABMES).
For the past ten years I have privately tutored Chinese high school students and was glad to see that 85% of them were accepted to prestigious U.S. institutions of higher education, such as U.C. Berkley, U.C. Davis, Emory University, U.C. Santa Barbara, among others. My pride and joy was to see one of my tutoreies become valedictorian and be accepted to Harvard University where she is now completing her doctoral studies.
My basic educational premise is focused on the student’s learning rather than on my teaching. I guide my students towards valuing themselves as protagonists of their learning processes rather than being objects of the process.
Critical Thinking, Research Techniques, Logical Argumentation, open mindedness, curiosity and, what I call, the observation of TRES (Tolerance, Respect, Empathy, and Solidarity) are, in my view, fundamental values that foster the building of knowledge, understanding, civility, civics, and citizenship.
