About GERARD

I was impressed by some of my high school teachers and decided that I wanted to do that work.

40 Years teaching history.

29 Years teching history at Hopkins School in New Haven, Connecticut.

About the lesson

Discuss the needs of the student with parents, student and teacher or adviser. Assess the situation and develop a tutoring plan.

All types, from students who took history because it was required to Advanced Placement students who displayed a true passion for the subject and many "in between".

Be very frank with your potential tutor as to your needs and how you have been working in the subject matter, let the tutor know you in order to develop an efficient working relationship.

I was asked by former colleagues to return to school to lecture and organize class activities in history. I did it a couple of times already this year and had much fun with it.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should certainly reflect on their previous experiences in the subject matter and what specific challenges they can identify themselves at this point. They should ask their current teachers to give them a clear and honest assessment of their past and current performance in the subject as well as clearly defined curriculum and research goals for the rest of the school year.
