About Lauren

I completed my Bachelor's degree in History from Wittenberg University, from which I graduated with university and departmental honors. I also completed a Master's degree in History from Kent State University, where I earned a full tuition-paid teaching assistantship for the duration of my studies. As a Teaching Assistant I created course material, led discussions, and assessed assignments and exams.

I also worked as an Education Assistant and Camp Counselor at the Heritage Village Museum in Cincinnati, OH for two years where I utilized education techniques to teach children (ages 5 to 18) about the history of 19th-century Ohio, which included history of daily life, geography, and natural history.

I spent three years as an Education Assistant at the Cleveland History Center in Cleveland, OH. I developed and redesigned programs for children (ages 5 to 18) as well as adults utilizing historical interpretation techniques.

In my most recent position as a Specialist at Cowan's Auctions, Inc., I used these skills daily to help inform clients about their antiques and the history behind them. I also gave several presentations on specific topics.

About the lesson

I get to know the student a bit with simple icebreaker questions, then ask what it is about the subject they find most challenging to assess learning style and how to approach the problem. I use the Socratic teaching method of asking questions and guiding the student to utilize their own skills to come up with the answers.

I have worked with students of all ages, beginning with age 5 up through college-age and adult students.
