About Martin
As an independent school teacher and coach for over a decade, I seek to inspire life-long learning in all my students in every discipline. I earned a BA in Philosophy from Colgate University, where I was captain of the Division I Varsity Tennis team. For the past ten years, I have taught seventh-grade early American history at St. Albans School. This fall I will pursue a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.
I also teach public policy case studies to rising high school seniors as part of the St. Albans School of Public Service. In addition, I have classroom experience teaching third grade and kindergarten at Beauvoir The National Cathedral Elementary School. I have coached tennis from ages five to eighty five, and coached football from grades six to twelve.
I work with students to build critical thinking by teaching close reading comprehension skills and best practices for writing clear, concise essays utilizing effective structure. I draw on research-based study skills to help students successfully internalize and retrieve information across academic subjects. More specifically, I can work work with students on summer reading or writing assignments, skill refreshers, and preparation for the upcoming academic year. I look forward to helping students improve in these areas and beyond this summer.
