About Joey

Hello, my name is Joey Nagasawa. Half Japanese half white, born in Texas, raise in Tokyo(from age 2 to 18).

Japanese is my native tongue, and I enjoy sharing and teaching what I'm capable of to spread the deed.

I do not have experience teaching Japanese, but I have taught English to Japanese kids in kindergarten and elemetary school.

My educational background is in Outdoor Education, which has a lot in common with indoor Education. I have learned the tools necessary to connect with each individual on a different spectrum.

I started out in high school as a teacher’s assistant for a summer/winter camp in Japan called Eiken International School. I mostly worked with Kindergarten kids, but I have experience with grade school kids as well.

Through college I obtained an associate’s degree in Outdoor Rec. Leadership, from then I have been working as a guide taking out people as young as junior high up to full adults. It may seem there is no teaching involved in guiding(yes, not as much as schools), but to get people up and going on whatever activity it may be, they need to be familiarized with the necessary equipment, possible hazards, safety/emergency procedures as well as local fauna/flora identification and geological processes.

I grew up in Japan so my Japanese is fluent and native.

I have been trained/worked at a summer/winter camp in Japan teaching kids(ages 3 to 18) English.

My education is in Outdoor Rec. Leadership where I learned to connect with people on different spectrums through different styles of leadership which include communication, observation and decisiveness.

About the lesson

Introduce each other through light conversation to initially connect and to guage the student's personality, knowledge and ability.
