About James
I have over 25 years of experience as a public high school English teacher. I have spent most of that time in a classroom teaching honors and AP-level writing and literature classes; on average 67% of my AP students score 4 or 5 on the AP exam. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with motivated students, whether they are working their way through complex writing assignments, or just getting started. I review all assignments carefully and give precise, specific feedback. I encourage students to assess their own work and to consider different modes of expression. I encourage critical thinking. I have a deep love of the English language, and believe that students' ability to express themselves in writing is perhaps the most important skill they can develop!
