About Audra

I am passionate about my job, my content, and my relationships with students. I want students to learn, while feeling relaxed, listened to, and successful. I hate to see kids stressed over assignments because they feel overwhelmed. My theory is one-step-at-a-time. I attack everything in life one-step-at-a-time.

I am a mom of four kids, ages 13-18 and have loved teaching high school and middle school for 25 years. I teach ELA and focus on literature, grammar and writing.

I have experience as a tutor, with both individuals and small groups. I stopped tutoring for a bit to be there for my own kids (not that any of them wanted Mom’s help). However, now that I have more free time, I am looking forward to jumping back in.

I am willing to help with homework, or build reading and writing skills. One of my strengths is helping students who struggle with executive functioning: organization of materials or time management of assignments.

I can work to build a good foundation of study habits for students in elementary or middle school, making the transition to high school that much easier and more successful.

About the lesson

Typically, when I meet someone for the first time, I want to introduce myself and talk about why I do what I do. I would break the ice with pictures of kids, pets, sports, movies, whatever they might connect with. I would share what my strengths are and then find out how I can help them.

I like to ask kids about favorite and not so favorite parts of the school day. Find out what they want help with and get a feel for their feelings about school and how we can best work together.
