About Douglas

For forty years we have been changing the lives of our students through the martial arts. Goshin Jutsu Karate is a system that teaches realistic self-defense skills that students of any age can learn and can be adapted to students with physical limitations. Students experience greater self-confidence and feeling of well being knowing they can defend themselves, improved health and fitness and greater awareness of themselves and their environment. Students regularly report how their training has helped them in their daily life.

After 11 years of training and helping my instructor teach, he told me it was time do start teaching on my own.

I have a Bachelors degree in Engineering and a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and am an 8th degree black belt with over 50 years of study and teaching of the martial arts. My background provides the ability to understand the mechanics of what makes martial arts techniques work and how to adapt them to individual needs. I also understand human development and learning and have worked with many victims of trauma and abuse and understand their needs in helping them overcome their fears and improve their confidence and self esteem.

About the lesson

Students receive a free lesson to become acquainted with the school, the instructors and what we teach. If they sign up for classes, they will be part of a group warm up, then assigned to a black belt for individual instruction or with several students of similar experience. As they learn the basic requirements they will move into the next level of class.

Students from 4 years old to 86 years old many with physical or emotion limitations including a blind student and a student with brain damage from lack of oxygen at birth.

Getting started is the hardest part. Remember that every student from the lowest white belt to the highest master had to overcome their fear and make the phone call and walk through the door.

We recently had a dojo swim party where students could bring a friend and after an afternoon of swimming had a picnic.

We also have several clinics a year where instructors and students from other schools visit and train with us.

We have a $100 registration fee. A basic program is a six month commitment at $105/month.
