About Frank

Defensive Arts Plus provides a holisitc study of the martial arts, incorporating many aspects of training under a single set of philophies, called Kosho Shorei Ryu. Training includes striking, throwing, submission wrestling, weapons, Tai Chi, brush caligraphy, and more. Lern these combined arts in a small-school environment from a 5th Dan black belt, who does this not as an income source, but for the love of the art.

At the end of my 7th year studying martial arts, I had to move back to PA, and my teacher asked me to share with others what I knew. After years of asistant teaching, I decided to commit myself to teaching what I know, while still learning, and i have continued to do so since then.

Over 28 years of martial arts training, 2 1st degree black belts and a 5th degree black belt.

About the lesson

Since we train in a principle based art, many of our exercises can be performed by both beginner and advanced students, and they learn different things fomr the same exercises. However, we have curriculum with specific progressive learning goals.

I teach kids from 6 years up to adults in their 70's. All people, male or female, all races, are welcome to train with me in our common interest.

Consider carefully what your trainign goals are as compared to those of the teachers you are looking at. Not all martial arts are a match for all martial arts students. There are many different goals to martial arts training, differing levels of impact, exercise, and intellectual/philosophical development that are emphasized.

I have been recently teaching Kosho , including swordsmanship to my teacher's students in CT, to supplement what they already have learned fomr him. I find this a great honor, and enjoy sharing what I have learned with them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Consider what you want out of your training. Are yo looking for an aerobic workout? Are you looking for self-defense? What level of imact/risk are you interested in? Match these goals with what the instructors appear to be focused on.
