About Andrew

Andrew Spadafora offers a FREE FIRST LESSON! He holds the position of Woodwind Instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College, is the former Product Specialist at Cascio Interstate Music, and owner/operator of vintage instrument internet-retailer MKE Music Supply. He is an internationally touring and recording musician and Endorser for D'Addario Woodwind Products, has recorded on over three dozen professional records, and holds 8 Wisconsin Area Music Industry Awards. Andrew teaches all voices of Saxophone and Clarinet from beginner to collegiate, as well as beginner flute. Andrew brings verve and fun to woodwind instruction with big personality and years of professional experience!

The greatest experience in this vocation is witnessing a talented and driven student passing through the "Eureka Moment" of a new skill! When we see the new skill take shape and merge into existing playing technique it is truly a fantastic moment! The interpersonal bond between instructor and student is paramount, and building curriculum from professional experiences around students' learning styles and needs is always a fun and challenging exercise. It often leads to a ton of FUN as well as progress in our shared craft!

I have had the great fortune of studying and performing under numerous great musicians in my career! I've had six mentors during my musical experience; One guitarist, one drummer, one saxophonist, and three trumpet players. From these indivuduals I learned more than just music. These people taught me about life, finance, and success. Most importantly, these great figures taught me how to LEARN, which is an important part of anyone's life experience. Joining the faculty at Milwaukee Area Technical College further drove my interest in pedagogy and instruction, and now it is one of the primary focuses (and enjoyments in life)!

Our first lesson is FREE! During the first lesson the student (and parents where applicable) will join in to ascertain playing ability, personality, and current level of knowledge. From there we will be able to select literature, gather materials, and create a plan to learn and grow as a musician!

I have experience with students as young as 10 years of age and as old as 75, as well as with students who are differently-abled.

Teaching available within the following formats:
-Saxophone and Clarinet (full family of voices), beginner to collegiate level
-Flute lessons for beginners
-Improvisation and functional real-world theory
-Solo/Music transcription and analysis

*Can work with a student who has never seen sheet music before, or perform master classes with professional musicians to help obtain techniques and information in genres that may not be as familiar. Whatever you might need, we can find a way to learn it together!

I believe that you should try to locate an instructor who has the necessary experience as a musician to be able to provide you with real-world knowledge and resources. Your instructor should have an open personality, a lot of real-world experience, and a strong work ethic. More great students are ruined by poor instruction than by lack of aptitude! There's no reason for you to wind up with an instructor that underperforms due to lack of ability, knowledge, or work ethic. You deserve the best!

Very recently a student I've been teaching for a year had a breakthrough in Improvisation, being able to name all the chord changes of a jazz song we had been working on as well as improvising successfully through those changes! It was a HUGE breakthrough and we both spent a long time analyzing what he was able to pull off successfully. Definitely a moment to remember!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are some great questions you can ask your instructor about in order for both of you to gain a greater understanding of direction and expectations!

- What is the student's goal as a player? Do they want to play better now? Do they want to study in college? Do they want to be a professional player?

- What is a realistic expectation of the time needed to improve playing? What elements will need the bulk of the time to improve?

- What are some good resources to use to learn more effectively? Books, materials, websites (etc)?

- What do YOU want to get out of these lessons?
