About Josh

The number one way to boost your skills in music and audio production (in anything for that matter) is to have a teacher. An instructor. A mentor. Learning the basics from Youtube is great. But learning how to apply technique to real world situations is often overlooked. Its the most difficult part. Applying what you learn to what it is you are currently working on.

I have had several people intern under me in medium and large format studios and have do private lessons out of my home studio. Intern positions have become hard to come by as larger studios have mostly shut down all across the country. This, plus advances of technology, have led to many more small studios and home studios. Recording software comes on computers and phones now.

I am committed to helping you learn and grow in your music production endevors. You will learn things that can be applied to ANY genre. You will also learn things that are genre specific. Weather you are a beginner or looking to sharpen up your skills, lessons will be tailored to your skill level and intrests.

Learning music production is not specific to any one DAW (recording software). I use Pro Tools, Logic, and Ableton mostly. We will use mostly native plugins, unless requested otherwise. This will show you great productions can be done with basic tools.

I love seeing growth, conficdence and a sense of accomplishment in my students. There is nothing more human than creativity. Helping others focus their creativity really bring me into the now, into the moment.

I have over 15 years experience recording in home studios and professional studios. Even before that I dabbled in making and recording my own music. Starting out reading the dryest "Home Recording For Musicians" book, I found my start filled with lots of questions on how to do certain things. Eventually I found my way into and internship. Being able to learn from someone in real world situations that are always changing is the best way to learn in my opinion. My teacher was an amazing Producer. I learned under him for a year and then began working in the studio. Eventually I helped run it before branching out on my own. Since then, expereince has been my best teacher. My curiousity has never wained. I continue to learn to this day.

About the lesson

Our first lesson will start with understanding who you are as a creative person. I like to have a full grasp on both your creative dreams and technical goals. With a target in mind, we will explore where you are now with your skillset. Even if you are a beginner, as long as you have ears and you can conceptualize things in your mind, you will be further along than you realize.
