It is my passion to help others develop new skills. I absolutely love it when my students have their "lightbulb" moment.

I've been teaching for over 30 years. I started college planning to be a history professor and ended up a home economics teacher.

I was a classroom teacher for 13 years. For the last 7 years, I have been a community health educator. My focus is Nutrition and Healthy Eating. I really enjoy the science of nutrition and how to apply that to cooking healthy meals for a family.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Spanish and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition. This education has included courses in Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, Spanish Grammar and Literature, and Food Science.

I have earned a Standard Classroom Teacher Certificate from the Texas State Board of Educator Certification (Home Ec, Health, Speech, Science and Social Studies) and a Community Health Worker/Promotora Certficate from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Both of these require annual Continuing Education Units to maintain and are verifyable by the public.

I have received "Lay Leader" certfications in Stanford University's Chronic Disease, Chronic Pain, and Diabetes Self-Management Programs, Texas A&M AgriLife's Si, Yo Puedo Controlar Mi Diabetes, and Wisdom, Power & Control Diabetes Self-Managment Programs as well as A Matter of Balance, a fall-prevention workshop developed by Maine Health.

About the lesson

Have a "meet & greet" session as part of the first lesson to assess current knowledge and establish goals.

It is important to learn about my students and create a trusting relationship.

I've worked with students ages 7 up to seniors.
