About Peter

An graduate actor of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, I am keen to work with students to help them achieve the best they can.

I am extremely passionate about education, and am interested in working with students to develop a genuine interest in what they're working on. I am where I am today because of some fantastic teachers, and I am keen to inspire students and pass on what I have learnt from the great teachers I have had over the years.

I am currently in the process of writing a book on dyslexia, exploring practical ways to work with it, rather than in spite of it, to achieve in an academic setting that isn’t particularly tailored to the needs of students who learn differently - And am keen to share my work with pupils and offer some exercises I am exploring in the development of this book.

I run a Mental Health charity, PostPieces, which uses art as a means to explore Mental Health - And want to share my passion for art in my approach to tutoring.

My approach is very holistic - I believe that throwing yourself into the world of the play, novel or period through art etc is the best, and most interesting, way to learn.

I am also the Co-Artistic Director of Un-Heard Poetry, a poetry project collecting unshared work to publish in a digital anthology.

My Teaching Experience:

I have taught on the Bruiser Arts Academy for several years, working with students of mixed abilities from ages 11 - 23.

I have also lead community arts workshops, taught drama through theatre outreach programmes across the north of Ireland and peer tutored throughout secondary school.

I ran a weekly play-reading group at my university, through which I facilitate readings and chair discussions on contemporary dramatic writing.

I have tutored English at KS3, GCSE and Alevel before - In both Belfast and Cardiff.

About the lesson

I believe in working with each student to identify their strengths and particular areas of interest in the subject in order to unlock their potential.

I use a range of methods to bring out the best in those I work with by identifying what kind of learner they are and developing their confidence to take ownership and pride in their work.

As an actor, I am by nature a collabortive person - I am keen to work with each student to explore and learn together.

Teaching is by far one of the best methods of learning, so I often have the student teach me what they know and work with them to deepen the understanding they already have.

I am not interested in wrote learning for the sake of passing an examination - I believe in a much more holistic approach to education, one which allows the learner to take ownership of the work and that sparks a genuine interest.
