About Rome

I was the originator in the area of the fun and uninhibited "Follow Me" technique classroom. Students wear silly hats and paint to Beatles music. I have been painting professionally for 32 years and began the fun "Follow Me" style of painting classes in 2003. I was a regular fixture painting live in the window of Milan Gallery on downtown Fort Worth's Sundance Square from 2003 to 2010. I have been represented by numerous Fine Art Galleries across the USA, Canada, Greece and in Europe.

I am an American Impressionist Painter; the style is impasto (thick paint) applied with a knife. I do not use a brush. Typical scenes are florals, water lilies, Seascapes and French and Adriatic villages. Sessions are approximately 2 hours and at the end of the session you will complete a professional looking painting usually on an 11x14 canvas.

People tend to like my method of teaching because you follow a step by step approach in completing the same painting as the instructor. It's that simple. The more serious you are the less likely that your strokes and how you apply the paint to canvas will be free and easy. Wearing a silly hat and listening to Beatles music usually keeps the students from taking themselves too seriously which helps them let the artwork flow naturally. Most of my large classes of painters end with all painting going on a wall and an invitation for onlookers to come view the work. The question is asked" Which painting is the professional artists"? Inevitably the viewers guess wrongly five or six times in a row.

WE have so much fun in a large class. Students are allowed to bring their own beverages and the atmosphere takes on a party like session. It is great to see how surprised students are when their painting is selected over mine, when we ask " Which painting is the professional artist?". I have some veteran painters who have taken my class just to get a taste of painting with a knife. They can't believe that they could finish a painting in 2 hours of less.

About the lesson

Students follow me. I demonstrate several techniques not only how to apply the paint to canvas but also the techniques on how to pick up the paint on the knife. There may be more ways to have the paint on the knife than spreading the paint on canvas.
