About Dawn

My teaching style centers around balance of light, color and composition. I teach a classical realism technique that can be translated into any style of painting. I enjoy working with beginners to learn the foundations of painting and advanced artists looking to hone their style or learn a new style of painting.

I love to tell a story in my own artwork. I think art should be an experience that impacts your soul. Art should invoke emotion or memory. Art doesn't always need to directly create a heavy experience, but it should always connect with the viewer on an a spirit level.

I enjoy helping my students find their passion and creativity. I especially enjoy helping my students to grow technically and expand what they can do as an artist both creatively and technically.

I have been a professional commercial fine artist for over 25. I have vast commercial experience that I can share with a developing or emerging artist from the stand point of creating art for the general public. My website is (concealed information)

My father, John Pitre, is a well known artist. I studied with him from a very young age. By the time I was 19 I sold my first piece of art. I have been a professional fine art commercial artist for more than 25 years.

About the lesson

If my student has produced art, I typically like to look at their work and ask them about their approach. From that point we discuss what their objectives are and assess how I can help them grow as an artist. Depending on how skilled the artist is, depends on how I teach them. A beginner student I like to start with the basic understanding of color, values, and composition. A more advanced student I like to talk with them about a piece they are proud of and how they could either develop it more or start a new piece working throught the steps together.
