About Tenanche Rose

Currently, I am a visual arts instructor at the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School. I have been an art teacher and instructor at all levels - from K-12. I have also taught at the college and university levels and I have also taught adult painting classes as well. As a working visual artist and teacher, my strengths in helping students are that I am able to facilitate strengthening the student's drawing and painting abilities by helping them to see visual relationships of shape and form. Students also learn color theory and color mixing from me, which is so important to successful drawing and painting. I can help students in any medium, including pen and ink, graphite, watercolor, however my strengths are acrylic painting and pastel. I enjoy helping students to grow their creative skills and advance in technique. I believe that every artist has a unique creative voice and I endeavor to assist them to bring that voice our clearly and joyfully in their artwork.

I enjoy participating in and witnessing my students' creative process and evolution. I enjoy taking part in this process and offering my expertise and knowledge wherever it can benefit the student's growth as a creative artist.

I began teaching as a public school art teacher, but upon completion of my Masters Degree, began teaching at the college and university levels. I have taught Drawing, Painting, Pastel Painting, 2-D and 3-D Design, Art History.

BFA in Painting from Carnegie Mellon University

Graduate credits in Studio Art from the UNAM (Universidad Autónoma de México in Mexico City)

Masters in Art History from the University of Pittsburgh

30 years experience in teaching Visual Arts K-12, Drawing, Painting, Design, Art History at the Community College and University levels

About the lesson

I begin by both the student and I making an assessment of their skill levels with particular media and understanding of Elements and Principles of Art as well as Color Theory.

The student shares their goals and objectives with me (what skills, tecniques, mediums, concepts they would like to learn.

We then work out a program to being their projects in order to make progress towards their goals.

I believe that painting students should have a basic knowledge of color theory and experience with color mixing. I offer that knowledge and practice within the beginning classes so that they may use it when they are creating their own pieces.

I have worked with students of all ages, from Kindergarden through 80 years old! I have worked with students in public and private schools, workshops, recreational classes, high school, community college and university level students.

Details

Each lesson is a two-hour class and costs $60. The two-hour minimum per class is to allow the student adequate time for

1.Discussion and criitque of any work(s) previously created

2. Discussion and critique of current work in progress with instructor(s).

3. Demonstration/practice of specific painting techniques and uses of materials and media.

4. Ample time for the student to work on and progress with their current piece in class with instructors' feedback and assistance.

5. End of class discussion of the piece and a plan for what to work on at home.
