About Kathy

My name is Kathy and I teach piano lessons from my home. I have a Bachelor of Music, with a Voice Principal and Piano Minor from the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. I taught in two different public school systems (K-12) for three years in the NJ area. I have experienced vocal opportunities with the National Symphony Orchestra (DC), Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the NY Philharmonic Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - among other groups. This means that I have access to some of the leading musical experiences and conductors in the United States! My teaching opportunities are in my home on Friday afternoons or weekends. I live in the East Cobb area and would love to hear more about you - and how you would like to pursue your musical talents. I look forward to hearing from you and offer you my very best wishes for exciting musical moments ahead!

Music has always been my passion. It provides so very many ways of enhancing life. Music will soothe us when we are stressed. It offers us a way of connecting and communicating with those around us. Music education is an opportunity to lead others into the simplicity - yet amazing interconnections with real life. This is the simplicity of a bird song - to the amazing abilities to enhance a basso continuo!

So if you are wondering what I am talking about... come and work with me!!!!

I began teaching as a public school teacher in the NJ area after singing with multiple orchestras and private piano lessons.

About the lesson

My process in working with a new student is as follows:

1. Determine the goals of the student by interview.

2. Determine the current level of performance by the student by a piano performance by the student and/or a verbal interview.

3. Set individual goals by working one on one with a student on a weekly basis. Depending on the experience and motivation of the student, it is individually sculpted to develop musicality. Musicality consists of strengthening fingering exercises, sight reading and developing the comprehensive ways of interpreting the sonority of musical communication.
