About Tessla
- I am a college student who studies social sciences and am a huge history buff and government nerd. I'm also very passionate about music and sports.
- I have taken many government, economics, and civics classes that have given me a very good understanding of the subjects above a high school level.
- I scored highly on the ACT (32) and SAT (690) reading portions so I can give study help and tips for passing those sections.
- I played softball for 12 years and coach little league for four years so I am well versed in the technical skills required for the sport and can teach those skills remotely.
- I have played golf for ten years and was the captain of my high school team for two years and can teach the technical sides of golf remotely.
- I have played piano for the last 16 years and did mallet percussion for six years playing in a collegiate marching band.
- I can teach four-mallet grip and how to play and can teach piano and music theory.
I have two younger siblings who I have helped with homework since they were old enough to have homework which lead to me tutoring junior high students once I got to high school. For softball lessons, I started because my sister and her friends were trying out for a travel team and they needed help with technical skills such as throwing and batting as well as some of them wanting to try out for catcher which requires a different skill set than other positions.
I am a junior political science student who has taken approximately 70 hours of courses that pertain to government, civics, and/or economics.
For test prep assistance I scored a 32 on the ACT reading section and a 690 on the SAT English section.
I played softball for 12 years as a catcher and outfielder, and in my last season, I had a .280 batting average, additionally, I coached 10u and later 12u little league for a total of four years (1 year in 10u, 3 years in 12u).
I have played golf for eight years and was captain of my high school team where my duties included teaching proper stroke technique to freshmen with no prior experience playing golf.
For piano, mallet percussion, and music theory, I have played piano for 16 years six of which I actively participated in high school and later college marching band where I played mallet percussion. I have also composed music and wrote an original score for two one-act plays performed by my high school one of which I was awarded best sound production at the bi-district competition.

Depending on the subject we will either discuss what you are studying for if it is a core subject for school, or we will establish a baseline to build from if the subject is music, sports, or test prep. After establishing a baseline we will discuss what teaching method the student finds most helpful and build a plan from this information.
I have primarily worked with students between the ages of 10 and 13, but I also have worked with high school students.
Find someone who is patient when you struggle and can help you talk through the problem. This will inevitably save you a lot of time and stress but will also help you remember the topic/skill more effectively. Also if you are looking for a history professor make sure they are not only going to focus on military history some of the most important historical events are social movements rather than military actions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It really depends on the subject. For anything related to essay writing I would say grammar questions. Proofreading is important and as a tutor, I will help with your grammar but most grammar questions can be answered if you re-read your sentence/paragraph/essay out loud because a lot of grammar problems can be caught when you vocalize what you wrote.
For most other subjects I think that students should ask every question they have because as a tutor I don't know what you aren't understanding until you vocalize it to me but once you vocalize it I will work with you to find the best solution.
