About Eugenia
I have been told I have a great sense of humor and great patience. On the other hand I am a demanding teacher and expect my students to do their best.
Good technique and finding the most efficient way to learn has to be individualized for each student.
I expect my students to someday learn how to teach themselves. It is a joy to see them discover their strengths and avoid their weaknesses.
I have my Bachelors in Music from the University of Illinois, and my Masters in Violin Performance from the University of Wisconsin. I developed and ran a large Suzuki program in School District #37, part of the New Trier School District in Winnetka, IL. I have had an active private studio for over 40 years. I was on the music faculty at Alfred University. I currently teach at the St. Paul Conservatory of Music.

I make sure I know how old they are. I ask them first if they can read music. If they are very young this process goes hand in hand with learning to read. My older students and adults often know how to read music but not how it applies to the violin, or piano.
Then I teach them the simple but necessary correct hand positions and posture to produce a good sound. This applies to both violin and piano. I teach them how to play a pentatonic scale to warm up and a simple song for rhythmic control. In violin, their song probably would be Twinkle.

Deadly! Eugenia Meltzer is a wonderful Suzuki teacher. I have three children who started learning violin with her and we couldn't have found a better teacher. She's experienced, patient, caring, and knew how to bring out the best in them. We moved out of state, and therefore we weren't able to continue with her, unfortunately. I highly recommend her as a teacher.
