About Samantha

**PLEASE NOTE: I am currently only offering remote lessons for composition, songwriting, and music theory. I am not currently able to offer in-person lessons for these services. Apologies for the inconvenience**

Have you ever wanted to learn how to write original music? Want to take your songwriting to the next level, or try your hand at scoring a film or play? I'm a professional composer and sound designer, and a graduate of the Yale School of Music. I have three years experience teaching students from elementary school to postgraduates, and I love teaching everyone from absolute beginners to seasoned musicians who want to explore composition. My specialties are instrumental, orchestral, electroacoustic music and sound design, and I work across classical, contemporary, film, and theatrical projects. I look forward to helping you meet your creative goals!

Teaching composition is the best job in the world! I love how individual composition is - it varies so much from person to person, no two lessons are the same. I love introducing students to new pieces and concepts, troubleshooting technical problems, and helping them discover their individual voice and meet their personal goals. Compositon is truly a lifelong skill, and I hope that the tools and strategies I pass on to my students last a lifetime!

About the lesson

My process varies depending on what the student's goals are, so my first step is to talk about what they'd like to explore or achieve in their lessons. Then I like to use playlists to get to know their musical interests, and from there we mutually set tasks for each lesson.
