About Annette

Candy keys and bumping bunnies? That's what you do at piano lessons? Yes! And much much more!

I love seeing my students discover that music is joy even when it takes a lot of work. The pride of progress and accomplishment makes practicing worth every minute. When a student struggles with a piece and then masters it, the boost in confidence is the greatest high! I also love the relationships that develop between student and teacher. Many of my former students are still in touch with me from years ago. Many who have moved away or gone off to college keep me posted about what they are playing. But the best part is seeing my students grow in their love for music and in their confidence in themselves. Music is a companion for life. It's hard to be lonely if you have a piano. I love knowing that what my students are learning can continue throughout their lifetime. That's a wonderful feeling! I individualize my teaching to each student and have a uniquely creative and fun way to teach theory and technic.

I have been teaching piano lessons for 34 years. I teach all ages, from 6 - adults. I come from a strong classical background but enjoy teaching all genres, classical, pop, jazz, broadway, etc. Growing up in a home where piano playing was ever-present, my first teacher was my mother. I learned to love music from birth, listening to my mother, who was a piano teacher, and my older sister playing duets and two piano parts as well as enjoying my mother’s students coming to my home every day for lessons. I studied piano and voice throughout my childhood and adolescence at the Clark Conservatory of Music in Philadelphia, and later continued my piano studies at Baldwin Music in Weymouth, MA. I also studied voice with various teachers in New England.

I am a trained elementary Montessori teacher and was the coordinator of a gifted and talented program in two school districts. I have many years experience inside the regular classroom, integrating music and the arts into all areas of the curriculum. I earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Villanova University. At University of Connecticut's graduate school I studied Learning styles with Dr. Anthony Gregorc and Multiple Intelligences with Dr. Howard Gardner while spending four summers at the annual “Confratute”, a conference/institute on teaching the gifted and talented. I apply these skills in all of my piano teaching to ensure that every student can learn in the best way for their individual learning style.

I believe that the arts are essential to the development of the whole person. I believe that children have unlimited potential, and strive for all of my students to be creative self-learners. My piano students have been accepted at New England Conservatory of Music, Longy School of Music, Hartford School of Music, Yale School of Music, and Temple University. One student was a candidate for the PBS radio program, "From the Top”.
