About Benjamin

As someone who has played piano, drums, and bass, I can relate the instruments to each other and provide the experience and feedback of actually playing music with the student, which inevitably reveals weaknesses (and strengths) that the practice room does not.

I really love practicing, and teaching is like practicing, except I'm directing some one else in my favorite activity! Not only do I get to share my enthusiasm, I also get to learn about my own habits by watching others.

I taught some piano lessons in college and have recently been inspired to get back into it, so I have been helping out with some of my partner's student's, under her guidance. My partner is a truly great pianist who has taught me a lot about technique and her own teaching process.

I have a Bachelor’s in music from the University if Pittsburgh and am getting my master's in jazz performance on drums from Duquesne. I have years of professional experience as an electric bassist and a church pianist and organist. I teach from a formal, theoretical, and technical standpoint, relating those ideas to their practical use.

About the lesson

The first step is to see where they are, and what their goals are. From there we choose a starting point and prioritize information based on both their weaknesses and their interests.
