About Charles

Hello, my name's CJ Tomaszewski! I'm teaching virtual/online music lessons and offering tutoring services in music theory and aural skills. My path in music has taken many turns, leading me to possess the versatility I have today. I can teach piano, voice, trombone, and ukulele, and tutor music theory/aural skills.

I started teaching piano lessons four years ago, and now as a current vocal performance major at NYU I have the benefit of being a student myself. Personally, I believe this allows me to understand what it's like to be a music student inside and out. I am more than glad to give advice about the college audition process to prospective music majors, or for younger students, demonstrate the benefits of sticking with music through school.

I love helping people find their love for music like what I found. It's such a special thing to make music with someone.

My parents opened a primarily grade-school music academy in my hometown, where I began as an intern teacher and then advanced to part-time faculty.

I received a Certificate in Advanced Achievement in Trombone and Voice from the Eastman Community Music School in 2019.

I'm currently on track to graduate from NYU Steinhardt in 2023 with a BM in Vocal Performance: Musical Theater.

I've studied a varied combination piano, voice, trombone, and theory from the age of 4.

About the lesson

I like to find out where the student is in their musical journey: are you a beginner? have you taken some lessons or classes in the past? is music a large influence in your family life? are you currently enrolled in a class/lessons that you're looking for help with? From there, I'll pick a few "trial pieces/assigmments" to guide my estimate on where to start working. I'll also ask for student input as to what kind of work the student feels provides them the greatest opportunity to grow, and to find out what we should work on most.

I've taught primarily elementary-aged students but have worked with kids up to high school age.

Many teachers know their material like the back of their hand, but less know how to articulate this to their students. Find a teacher who can connect and communicate with you what you need to know.

I was recently cast and performed as the White Rabbit in NYU Steinhardt's production of Wonderland, which was rewritten and workshopped specifically for our program alongside the composer, Frank Wildhorn.
