About Erika
Hello hello hello! My name is Erika Shields and I am currently an ELD teacher in Silver Spring and I am finishing my sixth year teaching. I finished my master's degree in 2023 from Johns Hopkins in Gifted Leaners and STEM education. Over the past eight months, I've combined my experience teaching & creativity in writing picture books and children's chapter books and a contemporary novel.
I am launching a writing course for K-5 on how to write novels, picture books and/or fact books. My ideal location is a local library so we can use the spaces and books to let creativity flow.
I am a certified teacher, so I can tutor in other areas as well! My favorite subjects to teach are phonics, reading and math, and my favorite subject to participate in is science. I am highly qualified in teaching mathematics, and reading comprehension, but also the other early elementary subjects.
