Hello! My name is Vickie Kim! I am a tutor at San Joaquin Tutoring. I have 27 years experience as a Regular/Substitute Teacher in the Fresno County area. Also, have 10 years experience as a tutor in subjects listed. I received my Bachelor of Arts, Liberal Studies degree at California State University, Fresno in December 1988 and have completed over 100 clock-hours of Professional Growth courses both at CSU, Fresno and Fresno City College combined to maintain up-to-date on the latest teaching concepts and ideas!
I have taught and continue to teach Regular/Substitute Education assignments; Kindergarten, 1-12 with Fresno County School Districts.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Fresno. I also have 27 years in the educational field, both in the classroom as well as an academic tutor.

Working with a new student is a "Hello, how are you?" acquaintance time. I like to meet him/her by asking a few general questions including their favorite hobbies and subjects in school. Then I give him/her a questionnaire that encourages formulating what he/she would like to gain from tutoring (reading improvement, review algebra concepts, homework review, etc.). Lastly, I give a pretest revolving around these subjects and concepts as a guideline as to where the tutoring sessions should begin and be focused.
I have worked with students from Grades Kindergarten, 1-12 including Children Center (Toddlers, Preschool), Adults English as a Second Language.
I would advise a student to search for a tutor that is not only patient, knowlegable, and kind but one he/she understands and feels comfortableas well as "gets-along-with".
I am fond of seeing students grow academically from the first meeting session to the last. Then apply all what he/she has learned and better understand assignments and lessons in the classroom setting.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have somewhat a list or guideline of what or why they want tutoring. This includes what concepts they are having difficulty in understanding as well as some of their interests (academics and electives) in school. Lastly, to think through where he/she wants to be academically at the end of the 6-week tutoring period.

Details
My standard fee is set at $15.00 per hour. Typically, tutoring sessions are scheduled for 3 hours per week at the convience of both the student and family and the tutor. Lastly, the sessions are set at 6-week intervals per academic subject.
