About Brigid

My service stands out because I recognize and appreciate that each child is an individual, with his/her own strengths and weaknesses, and work with the student accordingly. I have found that doing so makes learning enjoyable, and encourages the student to want to continue.

My joy in this work comes from seeing the satisfaction a student feels in his/her own capabilities and accomplishments.

I started teaching my own child while she was a toddler, who began reading at age three. I later homeschooled her (through our local school district) from grades kindergarten through grade five.

I have ten plus years of experience tutoring for elementary school aged children, as well as participating in an after school reading program for middle-schoolers. I also have certification in Positive Discipline and with the knowledge I gained, went on to create a variety of volunteer programs aimed at educating both parents and children.

About the lesson

Taking the time to understand a student's personality, assessing what he or she is already familiar with, and what their particular style of learning is are key to providing the best service.

My work with students has been mainly with elementary school aged children.

My advice would be to make sure that teacher and student (and family) are a good match. There are many knowledgeable teachers, but not all will resonate with you. It may take awhile, but finding someone who is both competent and with whom you feel comfortable will ensure you get the best out of the experience.

Spending time with my granddaughter and enjoying seeing the world through her eyes is the highlight of my recent experience. Being a part of her learning experience is priceless!
